Synopsis
The Gheorghius, a very devout Romanian-Norwegian couple, settle in a village on a remote fjord, where they develop a close relationship with their neighbours, the Halbergs. Their children become friends despite their different upbringings. When their teenage daughter, Elia Gheorghiu, shows up at school with bruises, the community wonders if the traditional upbringing the parents give their children has anything to do with it.

CRISTIAN MUNGIU
Romania, 1968
Born in Iași, Romania, in 1968, Cristian Mungiu began his career as a writer, journalist, photographer and teacher before turning to filmmaking. His debut feature, Occident, premiered at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2002 to great acclaim. 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2007. He returned to the festival in 2009 as screenwriter, producer and co-director of the anthology film Tales from the Golden Age, and as screenwriter and director in 2012 with Beyond the Hills, which won awards for Best Screenplay and Best Actress. R.M.N. premiered in the official selection at Cannes in 2022. Bacalaureat earned him the Best Director award at Cannes in 2016. With Fjord, his seventh feature film, he won his second Palme d’Or.
