Synopsis
Bizkaia, 1935. A fierce storm has run aground an English ship loaded with tons of coal. During the night, the residents of Algorta crowd the coast to salvage the black gold. Sabas Jáuregui sees it as a stroke of luck; Josefa, his wife, as an ill omen. Ignoring her pleas, Sabas drags his children into the violent storm. The family will do the unthinkable to protect the coal that could save them from the winter… or condemn them forever.

He wrote and directed short films such as El Trabajo (1998, awarded at the Montpellier and Locarno film festivals) and The Great Zambini (2005). In 2002, he directed two episodes of Urban Myths Chillers. He wrote the screenplays for the feature films Regreso a Moira (2006) and Automata (2014), produced by and starring Antonio Banderas, where he also served as second unit director. He also directed the second unit on Zip & Zap and the Captain’s Island (Oskar Santos, 2016). He co-wrote the scripts for Aries (2005), 9 Santos (2018), and Rondo (2011). In 2017, he directed his debut feature film, Cuando dejes de quererme. In 2020, he directed Ilargi guztiak (All the Moons). Inurri Itsuak (The Blind Ants) is his third feature film. He’s also directed six episodes of the series Operation Black Tide (2023, 2024).
