Synopsis
Seán, a young Irishman, leaves his job in Ireland to set off on the Camino de Santiago for family reasons. On his journey through Galicia, he takes a detour when he meets Ana, a Galician grandmother. Although they don’t speak the same language, they begin to walk together, supporting one another. Seán reveals that he’s walking the Camino in memory of his late mother, whilst Ana also confides that the reason for her walk is to collect her son’s ashes without her granddaughter finding out, as the girl is searching for her all over the area. Little by little, they share their lives and their grief as two strangers, overcoming the language barrier whilst finding fulfilment through the personal experiences the Camino brings them.

Cian and Jack Desmond are Irish film directors. Frequent collaborators, they work in both Irish and English. Their work frequently explores how people communicate and the complexities of relationships, often with a wry humour. They’ve directed short films and a feature documentary commissioned by the Irish language broadcaster TG4. This film was inspired by experiences that both directors have had with the special and surprising connection that can happen when people don’t speak the same language. Cian’s fiancée Silvia (who co-produced this film) has family in Galicia, and Cian spent time one summer with her grandmother. This film was shot on a micro-budget in Galicia, at Silvia’s family village.
